Amato Bio Action 2009 (JUNIOR): Appeared in nine games primarily as part of the special teams units, registering two tackles ... had a solo tackle against Marshall ... started the year as the Miners[apos] long snapper before filling a reserve role.

2008 (SOPHOMORE): Played in 11 games mainly on special teams duty, where he recorded one solo tackle (versus Texas) ... also served as a reserve tight end and the Miners[apos] backup kick snapper.

2007 (FRESHMAN): Did not see action.

PRIOR TO UTEP: Played tight end and defensive end at Americas High School in El Paso ... first team All-District defensive end and second team All-Region as a senior, when he was also chosen the outstanding defensive end in the El Paso County High School All-Star Game ... first team All-City defensive end and second team All-District tight end as a junior ... sophomore honors included first team All-District defensive end and second team All-District tight end ... led Americas High with six sacks as a junior, and led the city with 11 sacks as a senior ... made four catches for 112 yards as a senior ... four-year varsity letterwinner for coach Jack Murphy.
