UTEP Football Head Coach Scotty Walden named Steven Curtis the Miners’ nutritionist on Jan. 5, 2024.
 
Curtis served as Austin Peay’s director of sports nutrition during the 2023 season. While a Governor, Curtis oversaw the fueling, hydration and recovery needs for 16 Division I sports teams. 

Curtis worked in a unique situation where he served as the Governors’ director of sports nutrition, while also working with the Vanderbilt football program as a sports nutrition assistant during the 2023 football season. Curtis went on road trips while with the Austin Peay football program. The Governors finished 9-3 overall and 6-0 in United Athletic Conference play, while claiming a UAC Championship and FCS playoff berth in 2023. 
 
Curtis started his career at his alma mater Tennessee Tech as a sports nutrition/strength and conditioning graduate assistant during the 2021-22 athletic season. 
 
Curtis received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Tennessee Technological University in May 2017. He followed with a Master of Business Administration from Lincoln Memorial University in May 2020, and a Master of Science in Community Health and Nutrition from Tennessee Technological University in May 2023.
