After helping guide Texas A&M Commerce to a 27-5 season in 2021-22 as an assistant coach, including a 12-3 record in Lone Star Conference action and a 12-2 mark at home, Lexi Murphy returned to El Paso in April of 2022.
She played two seasons for Kevin Baker at Angelo State and originally joined the UTEP women's basketball program as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2017. She was named as the Director of Basketball Operations prior to the 2019-20 season.
In 2016-17 Murphy played in 32 contests, including 19 starts. She was an all-around player who put up 8.7 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game and 1.0 steals per game in 26.9 minutes per contest. She scored a season-high 17 points vs. West Texas A&M, which was helped by nailing 4-6 at the charity stripe. She reached double figures in 16 contests and connected on 43.9 percent (100-228) of her shots, including 38.3 percent (41-107) from downtown. She also nailed 36-46 '(78.3 percent) at the free-throw line.Â
Murphy graduated with a bachelor of science in psychology, and obtained her master's of education from UTEP. Her hobbies include watching other sports, movies and reading.
