Reece Nilsen was hired as an assistant UTEP men’s and women’s golf coach in June 2023.
Nilsen brings in a full season of coaching as he was most recently a volunteer assistant at Northern Colorado last season. The Bears won the Big Sky Conference championship, their first since 2019 at Talking Stick Golf Club this past April. UNC shot a 5-over, 845, across all three rounds, putting it ahead of the field by seven total strokes.
Nilsen is getting right into coaching as he finished his collegiate playing eligibility during the 2021-22 season at Northern Illinois where he led the Huskies in stroke average (73.79). He won the Xavier event and finished in second place at Wisconsin’s. Nilsen’s collegiate career started at NAIA school Rocky Mountain College. In his final season at RMC, he led the program with a sub 72 stroke average to earn NAIA All-American honors in 2019. After Rocky Mountain, Nilsen transferred to Grand Canyon where he played for a semester before the season was cut short due to COVID. Reese ended up at NIU for his final two years of eligibility.
