Michael Rust enters his first season as a graduate assistant coach for the UTEP volleyball team in 2016.

Rust brings seven years of volleyball coaching experience, coaching both high school and club teams.

He was an associate head coach of the Delaware Juniors 17’s ACE club team in 2014, where he saw a first place victory at the Big South Qualifier, as well as seeing the team place 13that the USAV Junior Nationals. From that team, several players went on to play at the collegiate level with three athletes playing at Division 1 schools.

Rust was the associate head coach for the Delaware Juniors 15’s-16’s Shockwave (2011-2013) who qualified for Nationals in 2013.

He began coaching for the Delaware Juniors 18’s Regional Team from 2010-2011 as the assistant coach, and then served as head coach for the Delaware Juniors 15’s Regional Team (2011-2013).

Prior to coaching at the club level, Rust was the varsity head coach of the Pencader Charter High School volleyball team (2010-2011). In 2012 he joined the staff at Maclay School in Tallahassee, Fla., which is where he met UTEP volleyball’s head coach Holly Watts, who was the assistant volleyball coach for FSU at the time.

During his time at Maclay School, Rust was the volleyball varsity assistant coach, as well as the volleyball junior varsity head coach.

Rust received his degree in humanities, education, and public policy from the University of Delaware in 2009 and taught high school English for six years. In addition to his years of volleyball coaching experience, Rust is also USAV CAP II certified (2013) as well as a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.Â
