Abby Walls joined the UTEP track and field staff in August 2025 after serving as the University of Arizona Track and Field and Cross Country program as the Coordinator of Operations since March 2025. In this multifaceted role, Walls serves as the driving force behind the program’s daily operations and logistical execution. As Assistant Meet Director, she led the planning and coordination for five home meets during the 2025 outdoor season—working closely with officials, volunteers, and event staff to ensure smooth execution from setup to results.

Her responsibilities span far beyond competition days. Walls manages all travel arrangements for student-athletes and staff, including itineraries, transportation, and reimbursement processing. She oversees recruiting visit logistics, works with compliance to verify eligibility and documentation, and assists in scheduling and coordinating practice and competition calendars. Acting as a central liaison between coaching staff, administration, and external vendors, she ensures the program’s alignment with NCAA, Pac-12, and institutional policies at every level.

Additionally, Walls supports budgeting, purchasing, and equipment management, maintaining detailed records and documentation for all operational needs. She plays a vital role in onboarding student-athletes, guiding them through pre-participation requirements and integrating them into the department’s academic and medical support systems. Her proactive approach and problem-solving mindset allow her to anticipate needs, respond quickly under pressure, and streamline communication across a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Before stepping into her current role, Walls developed a broad and impactful background in operations and coaching across various levels of athletics. As a Track and Field Coach at Pima Community College from 2022 to 2025, she played a dual role—leading event-specific training while also managing travel, recruiting logistics, and event operations for a team of over 100 athletes. Her coaching specialization in the high jump, hurdles and multi-events became a hallmark of the program’s success.

In the 2025 NJCAA Indoor National Championships, Walls coached Ja'Niya Ross to a second-place national finish in the women’s high jump, while also guiding Izzy Green to sixth place. She led Maylee Thompson to a fifth-place finish in the women’s pentathlon and helped Hannah Droeg place eighth in her first year competing in the multi-events. Notably, she developed Cedric Cade into a Fourth Team All-American in his debut season as a decathlete. She also coached Tyler Rodgers and Nathaniel Curtis to a tie for eighth place in the men’s high jump, with both clearing 2.04m to earn Eighth Team All-American honors.

Walls' high jump group consistently thrived at the national level. In 2024, she coached Tyler Rodgers to an NJCAA Indoor National Championship title with a winning mark of 2.10m, and guided Nathaniel Curtis to a Second Place national finish with a jump of 2.04m. Curtis also hit a personal best of 2.16m at the Triton Invitational later that season. In 2023, she assisted in coaching Trey Tintinger to a third-place finish in the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships with a clearance of 2.10m.

Across her tenure at Pima, Walls coached or assisted in coaching 1 First Team, 4 Second Team, 2 Third Team, 8 Fourth Team, 4 Fifth Team, 3 Sixth Team, 1 Seventh Team, and 4 Eighth Team All-Americans—a remarkable testament to her technical coaching and athlete development.

Her coaching extends into the youth level as well. At Tucson Elite Athletic Club, she works with athletes as young as 7 years old, instilling foundational skills in the high jump and helping them transition into competitive athletes ready for regional and national stages. She emphasizes biomechanics, mental focus, and long-term progression.

Walls has also contributed to major event operations through internships and guest services roles. As an Operations Intern for the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl (2023–2024), she supported venue setup, equipment logistics, and event flow. With the Arizona Cardinals, she serves as a Luxury Guest Experience Host, acting as a liaison between VIP guests and event staff to ensure top-tier service and seamless event execution.

Walls is a proud graduate of the University of Arizona, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 2023. She began her collegiate career as a student-athlete on Arizona’s track and field team from 2020 to 2021, before transferring to Pima Community College for the 2021–2022 season. During her time at Pima, she competed in the heptathlon and earned All-American honors. Following her season, she made the decision to medically retire from competition and transitioned immediately into an assistant coaching role—an early move that sparked her passion for mentorship and high-performance coaching.

A Tucson native, Walls is known for her calm presence, meticulous organization, and relentless drive to serve both athletes and programs at the highest level.
