UTEP Miners

Native El Pasoan Ruben Alcala Jr. joined UTEP Athletics as a Sales & Service Consultant in April, 2024.  He currently serves as Account Executive with Taymar Sales U.

Alcala Jr. began his career as a student-athlete at Brookhaven CC in Dallas.  While at Brookhaven CC, he won 2019 NJCAA Division III Baseball National Player of the Year and earned a full ride scholarship to Texas Southern University in Houston for the 2019-20 academic year.  Following a short season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he finished his studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice in May, 2021. 

In December 2023, Alcala Jr. graduated from the Masters of Sports Law & Business program at Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. During his time in Phoenix, Alcala Jr. served as a Guest Services Intern for the Phoenix Suns during the 2022-23 season.  

Alcala Jr. enjoys coaching youth baseball, watching sports, and going on hikes with family.
