Former Washington State midfielder Shayna Whieldon joined the UTEP Soccer staff as a graduate assistant in July 2024.
Whieldon was a four-year letter winner for the Cougars, helping the squad qualify for the NCAA Tournament in 2017 (Sweet 16), 2018 (Second Round) and 2019 (College Cup Final Four Semifinalist).
The Norco, Calif., native appeared in 64 games during her career, including logging 19 starts. She twice logged more than 900 minutes during a campaign, including doing so as a senior in 2019 when WSU made the run all the way to the College Cup Final Four. It was the third and final trip to the NCAA Tournament during her tenure, giving her instant credibility with the coaching staff and players upon her arrival in the Sun City.
Whieldon tallied two goals, both as a senior, to go along with five assists while making her presence felt both offensively and defensively as a midfielder. She provided the match winner at Hawai'i (9/19/19) in a 1-0 WSU triumph. She also found the back of the net in a 6-3 romp of James Madison (9/1/19) earlier that year.
She showed that the collegiate stage wasn't too big for her as a redshirt-freshman in 2016, tying for third on the squad with a pair of helpers. In 2018, she set up a pair of goals in the season lidlifter against Seattle U and another one in the first-round victory against Montana in the NCAA Tournament.
WSU forged a combined mark of 47-30-8 during her time with the Cougars, including an impressive record of 29-13-2 in her final two years with the program. The team achieved winning marks in each of the final three campaigns, which culminated with trips to the NCAA Tournament.
From 2020-24 she has been with Washington State in a variety of roles from the support staff and coaching aspect of things. They include serving as a volunteer assistant coach (2020), video coordinator (2020-22), interim assistant coach (2022), youth/elite camp associate director (2017-220) and director of operations (2022-24).
Whieldon graduated from Washington State with a BS in zoology and a minor in psychology. She will pursue a master's degree in leadership studies at UTEP.
