Taquan Johns

Taquan Johns joined the UTEP Sports Medicine team in July of 2025.

Originally from Hinesville, Ga., Johns is a dedicated and compassionate athletic trainer with a commitment to high-level athlete care and development.

Though raised in Jacksonville, Fla., he spent impactful years in Miami, where he completed his undergraduate studies and began laying the foundation for his sports medicine career.

While earning his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Barry University in Miami, Johns gained hands-on clinical experience with NCAA Division II programs, including women’s soccer and women’s tennis.  His time in South Florida was marked by a strong emphasis on collaboration, diversity, and adaptability, traits he brings to every athletic training room.

Following Miami, Johns advanced to the Division I level as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Detroit Mercy. There, he worked with the women’s soccer/lacrosse and track & field programs, overseeing return-to-play protocols, managing injury prevention programs, and coordinating care for over 100 student-athletes.  He recently completed his Master of Health Service Administration at Detroit Mercy, further expanding his knowledge in healthcare systems and athlete wellness.

Beyond his clinical experience, Johns enjoys staying active in the gym, exploring new restaurants, and watching movies.  Above all, he’s proud to be a devoted girl dad and brings a personal commitment to mentorship and athlete care to every team he supports.
