Twenty-eight UTEP student-athletes will graduate from the university on Saturday.
The list includes 14 representatives from the football program, seven from track and field, three from men’s basketball, two from soccer and one each from softball and volleyball.
Headlining the list of football graduates are Troy Collavo, Joe Fleskoski, Justin Hanel, Aaron King, Alex Obomese, Jordan Palmer and Adrian Ward.
Collavo has posted over 100 tackles as a starting linebacker for the Miners each of the last two years. He led Conference USA in tackles this season with 125.
Fleskoski, a strong safety, ended the 2006 season as UTEP’s second-leading tackler with 75 stops.
Hanel started every game at left defensive tackle this year, tallying 47 tackles, six tackles for losses and 3.5 sacks.
King has served as the Miners’ long snapper for the last four years.
Obomese led UTEP with 11 quarterback pressures in 2006 while starting every game at left defensive end.
Palmer concluded his career as UTEP’s all-time passing and total offense leader.
A cornerback, Ward was chosen in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft by Minnesota.
Other football graduates are Matt Austin, Orlando Cruz, Casey Mauch, Phillip Moss, Lorne Sam, Marshall Sanford and Andy Smith.
The list of track and field graduates includes All-Americans Desiree Crichlow and Henderson Dottin.
Crichlow placed fourth in the high jump at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championship, and is the school record-holder in the event. Dottin was a three-time WAC champion and three-time All-American in the high jump.
Other track and field graduates include Natasja Brusik, Kersta Caliz, Jairo Duzant, Fatima Hassan and Kaisa Kiintonen. Kiintonen was a two-time conference champion and three-time NCAA qualifier in the hammer.
Graduating from the men’s basketball program are Victor Luces, Brent Murphy and John Tofi. Tofi ranks fifth on the UTEP career charts with 774 rebounds, and 10th in scoring with 1,247 points.
Also graduating this weekend are Heather Boakye and Kia Sams (soccer), DeAnna Camacho (softball) and Heather Brisnahan (volleyball).
Camacho became the first Miner to hit a home run at Helen of Troy Field in 2005. In 2006, she became the first UTEP player to hit two grand slams in a season.
Sams was a key contributor to the UTEP soccer team’s success, finishing her career with 58 points on 17 goals and 24 assists.
