EL PASO, Texas - UTEP softball's first four year senior class - a group of seven - played their final game at Helen of Troy Field on Sunday, as the Miners fell 3-0 to Southern Miss. The loss moves the Miners to 29-20, 10-11 in league action.

Despite the loss, the Miners have clinched their last three conference series (UCF, ECU, USM) the most in school history, while shattering two UTEP victory records - overall and league wins in a season.

Renee DiPuccio, Kandice Henry, Simone Holland, Ashley Perez, Rachel Schaeffer, Nichole Tunget and Andi Zolton were honored after the game.

DiPuccio was a member of UTEP's inaugural class while Henry, Holland, Perez, Schaeffer and Zolton are the first four-year seniors to bid farewell.

DiPuccio started in the circle for the Miners. She struck out eight batters, one strike out short of her personal best.

Tunget, who came in relief, received the loss and moves to 8-5 on the season.

Southern Miss used the long ball to top the Miners on an already emotional day.

After five scoreless innings, USM's Brittaney Pigott came into pinch hit, a switch that was good for a two-run homer.

The Golden Eagles laced another home run in the top of the seventh for the win.

UTEP will head to ninth-ranked Houston next week to close out its regular season. They will then participate in the 2008 Conference USA Softball Championships, hosted by Houston.
