UTEP vs. San Jose State Box Score 
EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP softball team captured its fifth consecutive victory on Saturday night, defeating San Jose State, 2-1, at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
Stacie Townsend recorded the Miners' two runs of the day, and went 2-for-3 at the plate and Ashley Ellis knocked in UTEP's only RBI of the game to finish 1-for-2.
Townsend picked up the victory as the relief pitcher, improving to 6-3 on the season. She gave up just one hit and a walk in the outing and struck out five batters.
The Spartans used a series of three singles to score one run in the top of the first inning.
UTEP answered back in the bottom of the stanza, as Townsend made use of an error to score, tying the game at 1-1.
It took four and a half frames before the Miners scored the winning run that started with a single by Townsend up the middle of the field. A sacrifice bunt by Amber Bennett pushed Townsend to second. She scored off Ellis's single down the leftfield line.
The Miners improve to 10-6 on the season and look to secure their third-straight UTEP Invitational title with a victory over Samford tomorrow. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
UTEP next takes on Texas in a three game home series set to begin on Saturday, Feb. 28 and ends in a single game Sunday.
