EL PASO, Texas - UTEP softball's co-head coach Kathleen Rodriguez achieved a milestone victory on Thursday at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex, picking up her 300th career win in UTEP's doubleheader sweep of Texas Tech. UTEP improves to 24-23-1 overall with the 2-1 and 5-1 triumphs.

The Miners banged out 12 hits, including five doubles, a triple and two home runs. Jennifer Davis and Jennifer Stalter went yard to give the Miners their 56th home run of the season, one shy of the season record.

Stacie Townsend was also a force at the plate, going 4-for-5 that included her first career triple and two doubles. She added two runs and an RBI.

Townsend was just as effective in the circle. She gave up one run on four hits to pick up her 15th victory of the season. She struck out five batters and did not permit a walk.

Kelly Curran (8-7) picked up the Game 2 victory. She gave up one run - unearned - scattering seven hits with one strikeout.

A trio of hits in the top of the third afforded the Miners a 2-0 lead. Chelsea Troupe knocked a two-out single to start the rally and Camilla Carrera followed with a double driving her home.

UTEP added another run when Townsend knocked a double down the left field line, scoring Carrera.

Texas Tech put up its only run of the game in the fourth stanza as Elizabeth Eimen laced a triple and came home off a single by Alex Watkins.

UTEP led off the nightcap in the same fashion, as Townsend's hit was carried by the win into deep right field, getting her to third. An error by TTU's Leah Legler sent Townsend home.

The Miners gave up a run in the top of the fourth off a passed ball and an error. They made up for it, though, as Amber Bennett led off the bottom of the frame with a single and came home off a ground out by Stalter.

In the following stanza, Townsend hit her second double of the day and Davis brought her home with her ninth long ball of the season to give the Miners the 4-1 advantage.

Stalter gave the Miners an insurance run in the sixth inning, when she laced her third dinger of the season over centerfield. UTEP held the Red Raiders scoreless in the seventh to capture the 5-1 triumph, securing Rodriguez's 300th victory in the process.

Rodriguez began her coaching career at Schreiner College in 1996. She moved on to Eastern New Mexico to head up the inaugural season in 1999 before coming to UTEP with her husband in tow. As co-head coaches, they have tallied 142 victories at the helm of the program.

UTEP opens its final regular season home stand on Saturday with a doubleheader series against Tulsa. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. The series concludes with a single game on Sunday at noon. Four seniors ñ Amber Bennett, Jennifer Davis, Shea Lodes and Jennifer Stalter will be honored.

The Miners will host the 2009 Conference USA Softball Championships Presented by Helen of Troy May 7-9.
