El Paso - Kelynn Frye blasted her first career grand slam leading the Miners past New Mexico, 7-5, at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

The win gives the Miners their fourth straight UTEP Invitational title and second consecutive tournament victory in as many weeks. The Miners, 13-3, have now won 13 games in a row.

Stacie Townsend picked up her 11th victory in the circle after pitching 5.1 innings. She collected eight K's, scattered six hits and walked one.

Courtney Auger came in relief and struck out two batters and Joanna Krienitz entered in the final two-thirds to record her second save of 2010.

UTEP's offense was quick to start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off another of Townsend's long balls.

The Lobos led the Miners in hits 9-7 but despite UTEP's errors, the Miners held seven runners on base.

A pair of miscues gave the Lobos an unearned run in the second frame. In fact, none of UNM's runs were earned, as the Miners committed three errors in the game.

Camilla Carrera, who finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs, drove in a run off a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Frye's base clearing homer in the fifth gave UTEP all it needed to secure the win.
