"An Evening With Jessica Mendoza" Moved Indoors Due to Threat of Inclement Weather

Sept. 22, 2010

With a 90 percent chance of rain in the forecast for this evening, "An Evening With Jessica Mendoza" has been moved from an outdoor venue (Helen of Troy Softball Complex) to the Union Cinema on the UTEP campus.

A one-hour documentary, "License to Thrive," will be shown at 4:30 p.m. with Mendoza scheduled to speak at 6.

Admission is free.

Guests can either park in the Sun Bowl parking garage or, after 5:30 p.m., on inner campus.

Mendoza will speak as part of UTEP Athletics and Frontera Women's Foundation initiative to raise awareness about Title IX. Mendoza is a two-time Olympic medalist as a member of the United States softball team, capturing gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics and silver in Beijing in 2008. A four-time All-American while at Stanford, she is the current president of the Women's Sports Foundation and was voted the organization's 2008 Sportswoman of the Year.
