RUSTON, La. - LA Tech softball swept the UTEP softball team on Friday at the LA Tech Softball Complex. The Lady Techsters (23-10, 7-4 Conference USA) jumped on the Miners (10-26, 5-6) early during an 8-0 win (in five innings) in game one, while in game two, the Miners came up short during a nine-inning affair in which LA Tech won 2-1.

LA Tech scored five runs in the first, while Anna Cross and Pauline Tufi hit back-to-back solo home runs in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Tahla Wade led off with a triple in the first, but couldn't find a path across home plate as the next three UTEP hitters grounded out. The triple was Wade's third of the season and ninth in her career. The Miners have 10 triples on the season - second most in school history. The Miners tallied 12 in 2005.

Bianca Duran had retired 11 consecutive UTEP hitters after Wade's triple, but Ashley Eldridge ended that with a single in the fourth. Eldridge extended her hitting streak to six games. Courtney Clayton tallied the Miners' third hit during the fifth inning.

LA Tech tallied 11 hits during the first contest.

The Lady Techsters stole four bases in the second game, but none was bigger than Casey Ingram's during the second inning.

Kassie Harris struck out looking, following Ingram snagging second base. Duran singled up the middle, plating Ingram for the 1-0 lead. Kaitlin Fifield retired the next two of three batters to end the second frame.

The Miners came up big in the sixth. Kawehiokalani Netane tied the game with a solo home run that just went over right center. It was Netane's sixth long ball of the season, and 13th of her career.

In the ninth, Duran flied out to right, but a single by Janine Godwin, Katie Smith getting hit by a pitch and a Karlee Jensen walk loaded the bases for Kristen Miles. The junior leftfielder singled with a hard liner up the middle - between Fifield's legs - paving the way for the game-winning run by Godwin.

Fifield, who struggled in the first game, went 8.1 innings in the second contest.

Netane finished 3-for-4 with the jack, while Clayton and Jade Rodriguez each added hits.
