EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team will join other top teams in its region when it competes at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament (Las Vegas, Nev.) from Wednesday through Sunday.
"This tournament is what we have been working towards these last six weeks," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "The team is coming off some good results, and we are looking forward to see how we compete with all the teams in the region."
The Miners have amassed 17 singles wins in a trio of fall tournaments thus far. Freshman
Kirsten Prelle paces the unit at 7-2 but
Vanessa Valdez (four wins),
Erandi Martinez and
Rine Nozaki (three victories each) have also shown flashes.
Prelle, who became the first Miner freshman to win a flight tournament title since 2010, has joined forces with Valdez to forge a mark of 6-3 in doubles action. Martinez and Nozaki have teamed up to go 2-2 in doubles play.
The tournament will pit the Orange and Blue against other high-quality competition from the Mountain Region.
