LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NFCA office announced Tuesday afternoon that UTEP freshman Kasey Flores was one of the 18 Top Performers from around the nation in the opening weekend of the 2019 season.
Among the Top Performers there are 11 power five conference players, nine hitters, eight pitchers and only three true freshmen. Flores was the only non true-freshman pitcher to receive the recognition. Additionally, when compared to other selected Top Performers she ranks third in batting average (.643) and is tied for third in home runs (three) and RBIs (10).
Flores, earlier this week, was recognized by Conference USA as the Player of the Week for her performance at the NM State Invitational. She posted unbelievable numbers and her debut game versus Creighton (Feb. 8) was historic for UTEP softball. She blasted two home runs, tied for the second most RBIs (seven) in a game for a Miner and had the most RBIs for a debut game in UTEP history.
Other incredible stats from the freshman's opening weekend are a 2.096 OPS, 1.429 slugging percentage, .667 OBP, 20 total bases, 7-8 (.875) with runners on base and 4-4 with runners in scoring position.
