EL PASO, Texas – UTEP softball head coach
Tobin Echo-Hawk announced the addition of pitcher Skyler Stockie to the 2019 recruiting class on Thursday morning.
"We are excited to add Skyler (Stockie) to our Miner family," Echo-Hawk said. "She has a tremendous resume on the field and we can not wait to see her progress as an athlete."
Stockie, a native of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, is the first international NLI signee for Echo-Hawk at UTEP, and will join Amanda DuPriest and Isabella Kelly as a trio of freshmen pitchers next season.
Last season in the Waterloo Gold U19 league, the pitcher threw 161 innings in 40 appearances and posted a 25-1 record in the circle with 181 strikeouts. She only tallied 30 earned runs to her credit, which gave her an impressive 1.33 ERA. During the National Canadian Championships Stockie posted a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in 28 innings of work. This stellar performance earned her the Top All-Star Pitcher Award, and her team the gold medal.
Stockie has compiled a gold, silver and two bronze medals to her list of accolades, as well as being awarded Top All-Star Pitcher and Top Pitcher Overall twice in her career in the Waterloo Gold league. The pitcher has also won a multitude of Canadian tournaments at every level she has competed at, proving herself as a winning pitcher. This past January she was named to the Swiss National Softball Team to compete in the European Championships (June 30-July 6) in Ostrava, CZ.
Additionally, she is an accomplished hockey player, having played goalie since age 10, and was once part of the longest provincial hockey game ever played (13 Overtimes). In the classroom the pitcher has maintained honor roll status all throughout her high school career.
