SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UTEP softball team (15-31, 8-13 Conference USA) fell to UTSA (20-27, 8-13) 8-0 [5] on Sunday afternoon at Road Runner field.

The Miners and Road Runners are now tied at seventh place in the C-USA standings at 8-13. The Orange and Blue can clinch a C-USA Tournament berth next weekend against FIU at home.

Kacey Duffield posted two hits in the effort, bringing her season batting average to .394. The senior has now reached base in 41 of the Miners' 46 games this year.

The Road Runner jumped out to the early lead after a leadoff triple in the first that eventually scored, giving UTSA the 1-0 advantage.

The Miners got the bases loaded off of three straight hits in the top of the second, but were unable to push any runners across the plate.

UTSA scored five runs in the bottom half of the frame, after a grand slam that took control of the series-clinching contest.

The Orange and Blue got runners into scoring position in the third frame once again, but couldn't string enough hits together to score any runs.

The Road Runners posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and the Miners were unable to cut into the deficit, losing the game in five frames, 8-0.
