EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team will venture to fabulous Las Vegas, Nev., to play three matches in as many days this weekend. The Miners (2-6 will have neutral-site matches with Youngstown State (2-3) at 11 a.m. MT Friday and vs. Weber State (3-1) 11 a.m. MT Saturday before squaring off at UNLV (1-5) at 11 a.m. MT Sunday.
"We are pumped to be in Vegas for a great weekend of matches," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We have been learning a lot with every match, and are hoping to finally put the pieces together and play well as a team."
Lina Sáchica and
Erandi Martinez have set the tone in the spring, each picking up four dual victories in singles.
Eve Daniels,
Kathleen Percegona and
Vanessa Valdez all share third on the squad in 2020 with a trio of wins in dual action. Daniels and Valdez both enter this weekend on two-match winning streaks.
In doubles action Daniels and Sáchica have teamed up to post a team-best 4-2 mark in dual competition. The tandem of
Maria Aveiga and Percegona has worked well together, forging a trio of victories in the spring.
This is the second straight year that UTEP is heading to Vegas to compete in a trio of dual matches.
