UTEP T&F to Open Indoor Season at the Boston U Sharon Colyear-Danville

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP indoor track and field will open the new campaign with a trio of Miners getting a head start. Daniel Bernal, Ruth Jerubet, and Victor Kibiego will compete in the 5000-meter event at the 2022 Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener the Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass., on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Jerubet will start her junior season at 2:30 p.m. MT/4:30 ET, while graduate student Daniel Bernal and sophomore Victory Kibiego will commence their seasons at 4 p.m. MT/6 ET.

This will mark Bernal's first career indoor event with the Orange and Blue. Bernal, a native of El Paso and graduate of Eastwood High School, transferred to UTEP from Furman (2017-21) prior to the 2022 track and field season. While at Furman, Bernal's collegiate personal best in the 5000m is 14:05.38 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 14-15, 2020. 
 
Kibiego, who recently competed at the NCAA cross country national championships, will begin his second season indoor season. Kibiego's PR is a 14:22.90 at the C-USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 19-20, 2022. The product of Eldoret, Kenya, finished fourth in the finals. 
 
Jerubet is coming off a wealth of success during the 2022 cross country season that was highlighted by a conference championship. The product of Kapsabet, Kenya, ran a PR 16:59.43 in the 5000m at the 2022 C-USA Indoor Championships.
 
The 2023 indoor season officially starts on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
