DAY 1 RESULTS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The UTEP track and field team completed day one at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational with eight Miners setting personal records in their respective events in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday evening.

"It was a pretty rough outing for us here at the UNM Don Kirby Elite Invitational today," UTEP Head Coach Mika Laaksonen said. "Out of our 30-plus athletes who competed today, exactly eight days before the conference indoor championships, only handful was able to perform at the level required to succeed next week! Carolyne, Karoline, Maribel, Oghenekaro, Sah-Jay, Juan, and Victor all displayed good form in their events today and are trending in right direction at the right time. The rest of the competitors that competed today were evenly split between student-athletes that had an average day today and the ones that competed at the level that is difficult to justify putting their names on next week's conference indoor championship travel roster. Definitely a stomach-turning day from coaches' perspective."

Maribel Caicedo placed second, clocking in a personal-best 24.27 in the women's 200-meter dash. Carolyne Chepkosgei also finished second, posting a personal-best 1:31.27 in the women's 600-meter event. Sah-Jay Stevens placed third in the women's weight throw, posting a personal-best 18.54-meter (60-10) mark, while Kayla Larry also set a PR with an 18.00-meter (59-0.75) mark. Oghenekaro Brume clocked in a personal-best 24.46 in the women's 200-meter dash. Karoline Daland competed in her first collegiate 3000-meter run, clocking in a 9:57.70, while teammate Ruth Jerubet also set her PR with a time of 10:08.11.

Victory Kibiego placed third in the men's 3000-meter run, turning in a personal-best 8:24.11. Ned Azemia clocked in a personal-best 48.41 in the men's 400-meter dash.
