EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP softball team (11-19, 2-7 Conference USA) fell to Louisiana Tech (20-13, 5-4 C-USA) 6-1 to close out the conference series Sunday afternoon at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
LA Tech jumped to a 3-0 lead over the first two innings. The Lady Techsters posted one run in the first on an RBI single by Brooke Diaz, then recorded two runs on three hits in the second to extend the lead 3-0.
UTEP answered with one run in the bottom of the third. Lexi Morales singled to left center to score Zaylie Calderon after she had singled to right field and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Savannah Favre, landing the Miners on the board 3-1.
The Lady Techsters scored three more runs over the next three innings. Sierra Sacco's single up the middle plated Lindsey Edwards in the fourth frame, Madie Green recorded her fourth homerun of the series in the fifth, and Katelin Cooper's RBI single lifted LA Tech 6-1 in the sixth.
LA Tech pitcher Audrey Picket held the Miners to no runs for the remainder of the game.
