HATTIESBURG - The UTEP softball team (12-24, 2-11 Conference USA) fell to Southern Miss (24-16, 4-9 C-USA) 8-0 in five innings in its series opener Thursday night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
Southern Miss jumped to an 8-0 lead after three innings. The Golden Eagles posted four runs in the first on an RBI single by Alyssa Davis, a two-RBI single by Hannah Borden who would then cross the dish after a UTEP throwing error. Southern Miss tacked on another RBI single in the second, then recorded three runs on four hits in the third that lifted the Golden Eagles up 8-0.
Southern Miss held the Miners to no runs to end the game in an 8-0 run-rule final.
