Miners Earn Points on Day 2 at the C-USA T&F Championships Friday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
 The UTEP track and field men's squad earned 11 points, while the women's team tallied three points on day two at the 2022 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at UTSA Park West Athletics Complex on Friday the 13th
 
Aleks Hristov started the day with a fifth-place finish in the men's hammer throw, gaining four points for the Miners. Hristov recorded a 55.34-meter mark (181-06). 
 
Jalen Cadet completed the decathlon, which started on Thursday. Cadet placed eighth with 5,811 points, while earning a point. Cadet finished first in the decathlon 100-meter dash on Thursday with a personal-best 10.61. He also placed third in the decathlon javelin throw with a personal-best 51.54-meter mark (169-01). 
 
Titus Cheruiyot (31:07.86) and Rodgers Korir (31:30.17) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, and combined for six points in the men's 10K. 
 
On the women's side, Karen Villa Medina got the Miners on the board with a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon, posting three points. Medina finished first in the heptathlon javelin with a 32.34-meter (106-01) toss. Medina set personal bests in five of the seven events. She posted a PR in the 100-meter hurdles (15.44), the high jump (1.56m, 5-1.25), 200-meter dash (27.24), the long jump (5.15m, 16-10.75), and the 800-meter race (2:36.38). 
 
Ruth Jerubet finished outside the top eight with a ninth-place finish in the women's 10K, clocking in a 37:50.58. It was Jerubet's first ever collegiate 10K race. 
 
Overall for the meet, men's favorite Charlotte tallied 38 points, while Rice gained 35. Host UTSA tallied 15 points and North Texas got 12 points. WKU (3), FIU (2) and LA Tech (1) rounded out the men's order. 
 
On the women's side, Rice registered 28 points and Marshall tallied 15. Host UTSA (14), Charlotte (13), FIU (13), LA Tech (10), WKU (9), Southern Miss (8) and FAU (2) rounded out the standings after two days of competition. 
 
NEXT TWO DAYS
Saturday's field events start at 1 p.m. CT/Noon MT with the men's discus, while running events will start at 5:30 p.m. CT/4:30 MT with the men's 1500-meter preliminaries. 
 
Sunday's final day will start at 1 p.m. CT/Noon MT with the men's shot put, while the running events will start at 6 p.m. CT/5 MT with the men's 4x100-meter relay.
