400M FINAL RESULTS

EUGENE, Ore. – UTEP track and field's Jevaughn Powell finished in seventh place in the men's 400-meter final at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday evening at historic Hayward Field in Track Town, USA.

With the finish, Powell's sensational sophomore season will conclude as a first team All-American.

"Jevaughn closed out a tremendous outdoor season here in Eugene today," UTEP Head Coach Mika Laaksonen said. "His start for the race was bit timid today, but his first team All-American title as a sophomore is an impressive accomplishment. I'm hoping this one is the first of many more to follow. Congrats to Jevaughn and his coach Davian Clarke."

Powell clocked in a 45.81 to close out his sophomore campaign, and edging out Ohio State's Tyler Johnson (45.83). North Carolina A&T's Randolph Ross (44.13) captured the national title, while Florida's Champion Allison (44.41) placed second and Georgia's Elija Godwin (44.50) finished third. Texas' Jonathan Jones (44.93), Florida's Ryan Willie (45.00) and Oklahoma's Richard Kuykendoll (45.73) finished ahead of Powell. Texas A&M's Emmanuel Bamidele did not start.

Powell is the first Miner since Bert Cameron (1983) to earn first team All-American honors in the men's 400. Powell is also the first Miner since 2017 (Emmanuel Korir – 800m) to earn first team All-American honors.
