Kibiego Takes 9th, Cheruiyot 13th at the NCAA XC Mountain Regionals Friday

RESULTS: MEN'S | WOMEN'S

LUBBOCK, Texas –
 UTEP's Victor Kibiego placed ninth, while teammate Titus Cheruiyot finished in 13th place at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Mountain Regionals hosted by Texas Tech at Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course on Friday morning. 
 
Kibiego, who placed 20th in last year's regionals in Albuquerque, improved on his finish with a 29:15.4 in the men's 10k event. Cheruiyot, who placed 52nd last season, made a dramatic improvement to 13th, clocking in a 29:20.8. 
 
Both Miners are expected to punch their tickets to Charlottesville, Va., for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 18. The qualifying teams and competitors will be officially announced on Nov. 11. 
 
Ruth Jerubet was the top Miner on the women's side, placing 78th with a 21:34.5 in the 6k. 
 
Northern Arizona swept the men's and women's team title. The Lumberjack women tallied 39 points, following by BYU (59) and Utah (120). The Lumberjack men posted 36 points, followed by BYU (89) and New Mexico (97). 
 
New Mexico's Habtom Samuel won the individual men's championship with a 28:57.6, while NAU's Nico Young (28:59.6) and UNM's Lukas Kiprop (29:00.0) rounded out the top three. 
 
NAU's Gracelyn Larkin ran a 19:19.7, claiming the women's title, while UNM's Nicola Jansen (19:25.1) and Texas Tech's Juliet Cherubet (19:26.4) rounded out the top three.
