Walden Announces Chase King Recruiting Operations & Transfer Portal Coordinator

12/30/2023 9:28:00 AM

EL PASO – UTEP Football Head Coach Scotty Walden named Chase King as the Miners' recruiting operations and transfer portal coordinator on Saturday.

King follows Walden to West Texas after serving as a recruiting assistant at Austin Peay during the 2023 campaign. King also played defensive end for Walden at ETBU (East Texas Baptist) during the 2016 season.

"I had the privilege of coaching Chase at East Texas Baptist and his work ethic as a coach is no different than it was as a player. In our shop, we always love hiring our own and Chase was no brainer to bring to El Paso. He is one of the hardest workers I have been around and is a fast riser in our profession. He will oversee recruiting operations and be our lead in the Transfer portal. Fired up to have Chase in the Sun City!"

While on staff with the Governors, King assisted the coaching staff with the identification and recruitment of potential student-athletes at the high school and collegiate levels. King also had a hand in helping the operation staff with the execution and administration of practice, team meals, travels, and other various duties.

King was part of a staff that saw the Governors finish 9-3 overall and 6-0 in United Athletic Conference action in 2023. Austin Peay captured a UAC Championship and FCS playoff berth, while producing a school-record 17 All-UAC performers.

Following a two-year playing career at ETBU (2016-2017), King commenced his collegiate athletics' career with an internship with football operations at Memphis for two seasons (2018-2019). King returned to Memphis for another internship in 2021, this time in game day experience prior to reuniting with Walden in Clarksville, Tenn.

A native of Arlington, Tenn., King played football at Arlington High School. While at ETBU, he played in six games and was on the Academic Dean's List both years with the Tigers.

King received a bachelor's degree in sport and leisure management from the University of Memphis in May 2022.
