EL PASO – The UTEP rifle team will host No. 2 Alaska Fairbanks on "Senior Day" for the 2023 NCAA rifle qualifier match on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the UTEP Rifle Range located in the Military Science building. The matches are free and open to the public.
About the NCAA Qualifier
The NCAA qualifier will be the final score necessary to determine which eight teams will travel to Akron, Ohio to compete in the NCAA Championships in March. The first three scores come from regular season matches, and all three must come from separate locations. The fourth score calculated into the average is the qualifier score.

The UTEP rifle team fired a 4567 aggregate at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. The Miners shot a 2265 in smallbore and a 2302 in air rifle. Jonna Warnken led the Miners in both disciplines that resulted in a team-best 1159 aggregate while Isabel Brooks followed with an 1139. Warnken currently owns UTEP's best aggregate score this season when she fired an 1163 against Nebraska (Nov. 20).
Scouting Alaska Fairbanks
The Alaska Nanooks rifle team grabbed second place at the 2023 Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska. After posting a 2365 in the smallbore discipline on day one of the PRC Championships, the Nanooks used a 2384 in air to post a 4749 aggregate. The Nanooks were led by Rylan Kissell who took third in the individual top-10 with an aggregate score of 1191. He added a 598 air rifle score to his 593 in smallbore a day ago. Gavin Barnick followed in fourth place, posting an 1187 aggregate behind a 590 smallbore and 597 in air. Rachael Charles and Peter Fiori were the final Nanooks in the top-10.
