LAST TIME OUT

The Miners are coming off a record-breaking performance last weekend at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where they fired a program-record 2,372 in air rifle but fell just short in a thrilling contest against No. 7 Air Force, 4690-4689.

UTEP combined a 2,317 in smallbore with the record-setting 2,372 in air rifle, eclipsing the previous program best of 2,370 set last season against Jacksonville State.

UTEP's Carlee Valenta dominated the line, capturing the overall match title with a program-record 1,185 aggregate (586 SB / 599 AR). Her 599 in air rifle matched her own school record set last year at the NCAA Qualifier.

IN THE MINE SHAFT

Through two matches this season, the Miners are averaging 2,311.5 in smallbore and 2,367 in air rifle, for a team aggregate of 4,678.5.

Valenta leads the team in both events, averaging 580.5 in smallbore and 598.5 in air rifle.

Valenta's hot start has placed her among the nation's elite. She currently ranks:

  • 4th nationally in air rifle (598.5 average)
  • 33rd nationally in aggregate (1179 average)

SCOUTING THE FROGS

The No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs enter the weekend in strong form, sitting 6th nationally in aggregate average (4,730). The Frogs are also ranked 4th in air rifle (2,384) and 6th in smallbore (2,346) through two matches this fall.
