PDF Box Score: UTEP 6, WKU 3
EL PASO – UTEP softball's Peyton Angulo struck gold on St. Patrick's Day at Helen of Troy Field as she homered in the eighth inning that brought in Lexi Morales and Savannah Favre for a 6-3 walk-off victory over WKU (15-8, 0-1 C-USA).
The Hilltoppers took a 2-0 lead after two scoreless innings with a two-run drive by Taylor Sanders. Ashlynn Allen and Pate Cathey (RBI) chipped in with two stand-up doubles to close in on WKU, 2-1, in the bottom of the third.
WKU stretched the lead, 3-1, in the fifth with a stand-up RBI double from Faith Hegh.
Lexi Morales had been the only starter in the lineup without a home run this season, but that all ended in the fifth inning as she smacked the ball over left field for a two-run home run to plate Allen and knot the game at three-all.
Two more blank innings came and went to push the game into extras. Morales and Favre got on base with a routine walk and bunt and Angulo's deep fly to left field sealed the walk-off, 6-3, win for UTEP.
