Miners Fall as Favre Hammers 3-Run Wallop

PDF Box Score: Charlotte 14, UTEP 3

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
- UTEP softball's Savannah Favre refused Charlotte a shutout win with a three-run home run in the third scoring Ashlynn Allen and Lexi Morales, but the 49ers closed the series opener in five innings claiming the 14-3 run-rule victory Friday evening at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.

Charlotte took a 10-0 lead in two innings. The Niners got the jump on the Miners with two RBI-singles and two runs driven in from a wild pitch and UTEP error in the first inning. Charlotte added six more runs in the second frame from another two RBI-singles, a -fielder's choice and a three-run home run.

UTEP got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Leading off for the Miners, Ashlynn Allen drew a four-pitch walk and Lexi Morales singled to left center. Savannah Favre smacked a long ball over center field on her first pitch plating Allen and Morales to avoid the shutout.

The Niners responded with four more runs in the fourth inning with their fifth RBI-single of the game and second three-run home run to extend the lead by 11 runs. Charlotte held off UTEP in the fifth to secure the 14-3 run-rule win.
