C-USA Names Burgher & Johnson Track Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – UTEP's Niesha Burgher and Dennis Johnson swept the track portion of the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors as announced by league officials on Tuesday. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear. 
 
Burgher placed first in the women's 200-meter dash, clocking in a personal-best 23.19 at the 2023 New Mexico Spring Invitational in Albuquerque at the UNM Track & Field Complex. Burgher added a second PR, churning out a 53.69 in the women's 400-meter race and placing second. 
 
Burgher currently ranks third in C-USA in the women's 400 and second in the 200. Burgher is the second UTEP female outdoor track athlete to win the weekly honor, following Denae McFarlane's award on March 28. 
 
Johnson was the second leg of the men's 4x100-meter relay team (Jordani Woodley, Johnson, Abdulroauf Rashid, Karon Dean) that clocked in a season-best 39.68, while also ranking first on the C-USA performance list. Johnson finished in third place in the men's 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.36. 
 
 Johnson is the first UTEP male track student-athlete to win the weekly award since Jevaughn Powell did so on May 3, 2022.
