UTEP’s Belik Wins High Jump with a PR 2.12 Meters at Bryan Clay Saturday

The UTEP track and field team wrapped up three meets in three days in California on Saturday evening at the Bryan Clay Classic (Azusa), Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut), and Beach Invitational (Long Beach) from April 13-15. 
 
AZUSA, Calif. – Jakub Belik headlined the day with an outdoor personal-best 2.12 meters (6-11.5) that resulted in his third consecutive victory to open the outdoor season Saturday at the Bryan Clay Classic. 
 
Belik outperformed Rice's Ese Amata (2.07m) and host school Azusa Pacific's Raymon Harper (2.07m). The sophomore ranks second in conference behind Amata (2.15m). 
 
Joshua Hill the third and final day of competition with a 47.47 in the men's 400-meter dash, and placing 12thout of 92 competitors.
 
Zani Meaders clocked in a 54.30, and finished 10th out of 88 runners in the women's 400-meter dash. Meaders ranked second in C-USA heading into the weekend with a 53.65.
 
Mohamud clocked in a personal-best 3:51.13 in the men's 1500-meter Open B. The senior made a big improvement from his previous best (3:55.92). He finished 20th out of 197 runners. 


Kenneth Talavera competed in the men's 1500-meter Invite and clocked in a 3:49.40. 

 

 
 WALNUT, Calif. – Loubna Benhadja clocked in a personal-best 58.23 in the women's 400-meter hurdles at the Mt. SAC Relays. 
 
The sophomore ranks second in C-USA with her new time and top 48 nationally. Benhadja is one of two league athletes who are under a minute (UTSA's Alanah Yukich – 57.78). Benhadja's previous best was a 58.35. 


Niesha Burgher ran a 23.40 in the women's 200-meter dash. The junior transfer ranks third in C-USA with a 23.19. 

 

 
 LONG BEACH, Calif. – Marissa Simpson started her day of competition with a 13.65 in the women's 100-meter hurdles and finished seventh out of 64 competitors at the Beach Invitational. The junior ranks first in C-USA with a 13.49. 
 
Julio Pacheco Estrada competed in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking in a 48.43 and finishing sixth out of 50 runners. The freshman leads C-USA with a 46.74.

UP NEXT
UTEP will make its second trip to Albuquerque to compete at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open on Thursday, April 20 hosted by New Mexico at UNM Track & Field Complex. It's the first of the final two regular-season meets before the C-USA Championships on May 11-4.
