RESULTS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Carshaylah Harrison clocked in a personal-best 1:00.32 in the women's 400-meter hurdles and Niesha Burgher's time in the 100-meter dash ranks 25th nationally as the UTEP track and field team wrapped up competition in the Don Kirby Tailwind Open at the UNM Track & Field Complex on Thursday afternoon.

Harrison, who finished in second place, ranks third in Conference USA with her time. Her previous best was 1:00.48.

Burgher sprinted out to an impressive performance in the 100-meter dash despite the windy conditions. Burgher clocked in an 11.23 (3.5) and finished in second place overall. However, Burgher's time, due to the high winds, doesn't count towards her personal-best, however the time still ranks 25th nationally and first in Conference USA.

"Niesha's 100-meter race was the best performance for us at this meet. I'm happy to see Carshaylah move closer to that NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifying position in 400 hurdles with a new PB time in the event," UTEP Head Coach Mika Laaksonen said. "It was a cold and windy day at altitude so all distance races were at disadvantage because of this fact. Overall, this was very low-key meet for us and several of our top athletes stayed home to get ready for next week's final tune up [at the Desert Heat Classic on April 29] before the [Conference USA Championships]. Based on seasonal and today's marks, we will leave some of student-athletes back home for the remainder of the season."

The hammer throw will take place at Kidd Field at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21. Lizbeth Fierro, Natalie J. Murillo, Nia Reneau and Paris Watson will be competing for the Miners.

UP NEXT
UTEP will compete at the prestigious Desert Heat hosted by the University of Arizona in Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Saturday, April 29. It'll be the final tune up before the 2023 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Denton, Texas, on May 11-14.
