UTEP T&F Wraps Up First Two Days at the C-USA Championships

DENTON, Texas – The UTEP track and field team concluded the first two days of competition as the men's team got on the board at the 2023 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Denton, Texas, at UNT Track & Field Stadium on Friday night. 
 
Jalen Cadet competed in the men's decathlon the last two days and tallied three points on a sixth-place finish. The sophomore recorded 6,240 points and set personal bests in five of the 10 events. On Friday, Cadet tossed a personal-best 54.12 meters (177-6) for a second-place showing, and clocked in a personal-best 15.91 in the 100-meter hurdles. During Thursday's opening day of competition, the Nassau, Bahamas, native set personal bests in the 100-meter dash (10.45, third place), long jump (7.20m [23-7.5]), and shot put (12.41m [40-8.75]). Cadet placed tied for third in the high jump at 1.83 meters (6-0). 
 
UTSA's Jack Turner (8,011) took gold in the decathlon, while Rice's Grant Levesque (7,903) captured silver, and Turner's teammate Joel McFarlane (7,661) finished third with bronze. 
 
Titus Cheruiyot competed in the men's 10,000-meter event, placing in seventh and gaining two points and clocking in a 32:17.17.  
 
Charlotte dominated with 30 points the men's 10,000. Nickolas Scudder took gold with a 30:12.99 While his teammate Aaron Rovnak took silver with a 30:35.88. The 49ers also registered fourth, fifth and sixth-places finishes.

DAY 3 QUICK VIEW
Day three of the championships will feature the preliminaries in the running events (1500, 100 H, 110 H, 400, 100, 800, 400 H, 200, 3000 steeple).
 
Saturday's competition will start with current UTEP football defensive end Maurice Westmoreland competing in the men's discus final starting at Noon MT/1 CT. 
 
Jakub Belik, tied first in C-USA with Rice's Ese Amata with a 2.15m will start the men's high jump final at 3 p.m. MT/ 4 CT. 
 
The women's 1500 (Ruth Jerubet) will open the running events at 4:30 p.m. MT/5:30 CT. 
 
Marissa Simpson, ranked no. 1 in C-USA in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a 13.49 will compete at 5 p.m. MT/6 CT. 
 
Niesha Burgher, ranked no. 1 in C-USA in the women's 100-meter dash with a 11.23, will take off at 6 p.m. MT/7 CT.
 
No. 1-ranked Victor Kibiego – with an 8:41.90 – will conclude the day in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 8:15 p.m. MT/9:15 CT.
