LUBBOCK, Texas – After two days of heavy rain, the 2023 TTU Open got underway with a water-soaked course as UTEP cross country finished its second meet of the season at LCU Cross Country Course on Friday morning.
Victor Kibiego placed second on the men's side, clocking in a 24:30.0 in the 8K, and
Titus Cheruiyot placed eighth with a 25:15.7. Overall, the men finished in fifth with 137 points.
On the women's side,
Ruth Jerubet clocked in a 22:33.5, placing second in the 6K, while
Vallary Kiplagat placed 18
th (24:11.0). The women finished seventh overall with 156 points.
West Texas A&M won the men's overall title with 41 points, while New Mexico JC placed second (60 points) and Oklahoma in third (88 points).
West Texas A&M's William Amponsah won the individual men's title with a 24:29.0, and NMJC's Tomas Vega third (24:59.6).
West Texas A&M's also won the women's side with 42 points, while host Texas Tech placed second (62 points) and Oklahoma third (112 points).
West Texas A&M's Sarah Koomson won the women's individual title with a 21:50.0 and teammate Betty Bajika placed third (22:52.0).

UP NEXT
UTEP will take the course at the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by Arizona in Tucson on Sept. 29. The regular season will wrap up at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 13 in College Station, Texas.
