RUSTON, La. –
The UTEP soccer program (1-9-2, 0-2-1 CUSA) came back from 2-0 down in the first half to tie 2-2 at Louisiana Tech (3-6-3, 0-1-2 CUSA) Sunday afternoon. Goals from Sheyliene Patolo and Emerson Kidd sealed the draw for the Miners.

The Miners had four shots (three on goal), while Tionna Taylor and Angelia Amparano shared goalkeeping duties. Taylor started the match and Amparano took over with 40 minutes remaining in the second half.

"Today was a super display of putting in a full shift of heart on a hot and hard Sunday of soccer. We have yet to do that on Sunday, and if feels good to know we are capable," Head Coach Gibbs Keeton said. "Emerson and Shey deserve all the credit on the goals, and today's comeback was a full team comeback.  I loved our conviction and competitive drive, led in the second half by Mina. We hope that this point gives us something tangible to hold onto as it relates to our belief."

LA Tech came out on the strong foot in the first half, with goals from Kalli Matlock and Lauren Egbuloniu coming inside 16 minutes. After that initial misstep, UTEP found its groove. The Miners' first chance of the game came from Taya Lopez in the 18th minute, but it missed wide.

Just three minutes later in the 21st minute, the Orange and Blue cut the lead in half behind a rocket of a goal from Patolo. After picking up the ball near the sideline about 30 yards out, she cut in toward the middle and hit a shot that sailed into the top left corner, despite LA Tech netminder Laerke Holst's effort to stop it. The goal was Patolo's third of the year.

The Miner defense successfully stopped a barrage of shots and corners from the Bulldogs between the 33rd and 40th minutes, and the half would end with LA Tech leading 2-1.

The second half saw both teams turn up the intensity, but neither team could find a shot until the 75th minute, when Flavie Dube had a shot go wide for LA Tech.

UTEP earned a corner kick in the 85th minute, and Mina Rodriguez stepped up to take it. Rodriguez lofted a ball towards the back post, where Kidd rose above the pack to head it home to the opposite corner. It was Kidd's second goal of the campaign and the first assist of the season for Rodriguez.

The Miners had another opportunity on a corner in the 87th minute, but the Bulldog defense cleared it away. Rodriguez nearly had the game winner in the dying seconds of the match, putting her body on the line to try and slide one past Holst, but the Bulldog keeper managed to smother it.

LA Tech held the edge in total shots with seven to UTEP's four, but the two sides were even in shots on goal with three each. The Miners had two corner kicks to the Bulldogs' three and were called for one more foul (eight) than the home team (seven).

Next up for the Miners is two home matches, first against against Jax State (10/1) and then WKU (10/7).
