CUSA Names Four Miners Track Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – UTEP track and field's Jakub Belik, Xavier Butler, Alla Parnov and Marissa Simpson picked up five of the six Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors as announced by league officials on Tuesday. The CUSA weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

Belik was named the CUSA Male Field Athlete of the Week, and Butler the CUSA Male Freshman of the Week. Parnov earned a pair of weekly honors, being announced as the CUSA Female Field Athlete of the Week and the Female Freshman of the Week, while Simpson earned the Female Track Athlete of the Week.

Belik leaped a season-best 2.15 meters (7-0.5) in the high jump at the Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Feb. 16. Belik's mark ranks no . 1 in CUSA. Belik placed second in the event.

Butler clocked in a 6.74, placing third in the 60-meter dash finals at the Arkansas Qualifier. He also had a time of 20.96 in the 200-meter dash, finishing in fourth place. Butler ranks fifth in the 60m with a 6.72, while he is first in the 200m. It's Butler's third freshman weekly honor (Jan. 16 & 30).

Parnov leaped 3.93 meters (12-10.75) in the pole vault at the Arkansas Qualifier. Parnov placed eighth overall. She ranks tied second in CUSA with a school-record 4.15-meter (13-7.25) mark.

Simpson won her third indoor 60-meter hurdles race this season, clocking in an 8.13 at the Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville on Feb. 16. Simpson qualified for the finals with an 8.21 - the best overall time in the preliminaries. Simpson currently ranks first in CUSA and tied 12th nationally in the 60m H with a personal-best 8.11. Simpson earned her second weekly honor this season (Jan. 16).
