EL PASO – UTEP softball delivered an impressive performance on Friday night at Helen of Troy Field, shutting out Sam Houston, 3-0, to notch their 20th win of the season. This marks UTEP's first 20-win season since 2018, when the team finished with a record of 21-33.
UTEP improves to 20-13 (6-7 Conference USA) while Sam Houston drops to 15-24 (4-12 CUSA).
UTEP's performance was nothing short of spectacular as the Miners used a strong offensive showing in the later innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Ashlynn Allen led the team with a home run to right center, scratching out the eventual game-winning run. The momentum continued in the sixth as Halle Hogan ripped a single to left field, allowing Jordyn Lopez to score. UTEP clawed its way further ahead when Amaya Lee was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, bring in Aaliyah Rebolledo. In the circle, Faith Aragon's performance was a scratch above the rest, achieving her 10th win with a complete game. She struck out six batters and allowed no runs while only giving up just three hits.
