#ICYMI
UTEP defeated Texas A&M – Commerce 1-0 in a thrilling match at University Field Thursday night. Despite a weather delay due to lightning and extreme wind, the Miners came out firing on all cylinders against the Lions. A brilliant goal from Ana Quintero off a Taya Lopez assist in the 22nd minute put UTEP ahead, and a big defensive effort sealed the deal. The win marks the first victory in a home opener since the 2020 season, when the Miners (1-0-1) won 3-1 over Battle of I-10 rival NM State on Feb. 11, 2021.

SHOUTOUT FOR THE SHUTOUTS
For the first time since 2016, the Miners earned back-to-back shutouts to open the season. That year, the team kept opponents scoreless for three straight matches.

STARTING STRONG
While early, UTEP's 1-0-1 start is the best start to the season since the Miners went 5-0-2 in 2016.

ACCOUNT OPENED
Ana Quintero scored her first career collegiate goal with her game-winner against the Lions. Halfway through the first half Quintero pounced on a ball from Taya Lopez, beating out two A&M Commerce defenders to slot home the shot with the outside of her right foot.

SERVING UP ASSISTS
Taya Lopez's tallied her first assist of the season against UCR, equaling the tally she had in 17 games played over the 2023 season. It was the fifth assist of her career. It marked the second season in a row that she as notched an assist in the second game of the Miner campaign.

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE
Angelina Amparano has made 10 saves in 23 shots faced to start the 2024 campaign.

A SPOT IN THE RECORD BOOKS
With her two shutouts this season, Angelina Amparano has moved up to tie Sara Kaltwasser (2008-2010) for 10th all-time in shutouts for the Miners. She has four shutouts in her UTEP career thus far.

GET THAT CORN(ER) OUTTA MY FACE!
UTEP has held strong against 12 corner kick efforts from the opposing teams through the first two games of the season (five at ACU and 7 against A&M – Commerce). This includes a game-clinching clear in the dying seconds of the Miners' win over the Lions on Thursday evening.

ALL GAS, NO BREAKS
The Orange and Blue are 2-2-4 over their last eight games, going back to the end of the 2023 campaign. UTEP looks to keep building off of the positive momentum the team garnered towards the end of last season.

SHARING THE WEALTH
Eight different Miners registered a shot against the Highlanders, led by Taya Lopez, Hayden McMillan, and Ashlee Mora with two apiece.

COMMUNITY BACKING
540 loud and proud UTEP fans gave the Miners an extra boost in their win over the Lions. This was the second straight year that over 500 fans have showed out at University Field for the season opener.

MAY WE HAVE THIS DANCE?
Following the win over the Lions, the Miners continued a tradition started by Head Coach Gibbs Keeton last year and danced the Macarena with the fans in celebration of the victory.
