UTEP T&F’s Parnov Leaps to a Gold Medal, Djoma Wins Bronze on Day One at the 2025 CUSA OTF Championships Friday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – UTEP track and field's Alla Parnov captured gold in the pole vault, and Praise Djoma took a bronze medal in the long jump on the first day of action at the 2025 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee in Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium on Friday.  
 
Parnov won her first CUSA gold medal in the women's pole vault with a 4.02-meter leap (13-2.25) and tallied 10 points for the sophomore's first-place finish. Parnov took silver at last year's CUSA Championships at Kidd Field. 
 
Djoma claimed a bronze medal after leaping a personal-best 6.13 meters (20-1.5) in the women's long jump final. She tallied six points in the process.
 
Samoya Neil measured out to 6.11 meters (20-0.5) in the long jump and recorded five points with a fourth-place showing. 
 
Jirgens finished fourth in the men's hammer throw with a hurl of 60.09 meters (197-1). 
 
Esther Osisike finished eighth in the women's hammer throw final at 53.55 meters (175-8) and scored a point for the Miners. 
 
In preliminary action, Rejoice Sule clocked in a season-best 11.22 (2.5) and finished first overall in the women's 100-meter dash to qualify for Sunday's final. Marissa Simpson placed ninth, just missing out on a top-eight finish. Simpson turned in an 11.638, while Sam Houston's Aleah Washington clocked in an 11.632 to edge Simpson out for eighth. 
 
Simpson, however, did finish first overall with a time of 12.96 (4.2) in the women's 100-meter hurdles prelims to advance to Sunday's final race. 
 
In the men's 110-meter hurdles prelims, Jordani Woodley was second with a 13.68 (1.9) and Amir Williams placed seventh with a 14.20 (2.1) to advance to Sunday's final. 
 
Princess Uche clocked in a 54.31 in the women's 400-meter dash prelim and finished fifth to advance to Sunday's final. 
 
In the men's 400-meter dash prelim, Julio Pacheco Estrada (47.35) was seventh and Joshua Hill (47.45) was eighth to advance to Sunday's final race.  

The women's team tallied 22 points, tying for third with Middle Tennessee. FIU women lead with 30.5 points and Kennesaw State has 27.5. 

UP NEXT ON SATURDAY
The decathlon will wrap up, starting at 9 a.m. CT/8 MT, while the field events will begin with the women's shot put at 3 p.m. CT/2 MT followed by the men's shot put at 4 p.m. MT. The men's 800-meter race (6:30 p.m. CT/5:30 MT) and women's 800 (6:45 p.m. MT/5:45 MT) will commence the track events. Saturday will conclude at 8 p.m. MT with the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
