UTEP Student-Athletes Earn High Marks in the Classroom

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP student-athletes completed the fall semester of academic work with flying colors, combining for a 3.31 grade point average.

Additionally, 13 of the 14 Miner sports teams achieved GPA's of 3.0 or better.

Leading the way in the fall was the women's golf program with a stellar 3.78 GPA, followed by beach volleyball (3.65 GPA) and volleyball (3.63 GPA). Also surpassing the 3.5 GPA barometer were softball (3.58), men's golf (3.55), rifle (3.55) and soccer (3.54).

During the 2024-25 academic year, UTEP student-athletes posted a combined 3.24 GPA, their top figure in five years (3.29 in 2019-20) and second-best tally in 15 years.

"We had a great year academically in 2024-25 and we're excited that our student-athletes are off to another impressive start in the classroom this year," UTEP Vice President and Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. "At the end of the day, our most important mission is to graduate our student-athletes and prepare them for success once their playing days are complete. We are extremely grateful to Denise Holguin and the Miner Athlete Academic Center staff for the hard work and countless hours that they put in to keep our student-athletes on track academically and on course to earn their degrees."

"The academic staff is keenly aware of the demands our student-athletes manage while balancing their academic and athletic commitments," Director of the Miner Athlete Academic Center Denise Holguin said. "We are extremely proud of the work our students do in the classroom and it reflects in the GPA's."

A total of 67 UTEP student-athletes earned their degrees during calendar year 2025.
