AZUSA/LONG BEACH, Calif. – UTEP distance runners Andres Gurrola and Paul Rotich, and sprinter Kalix Robinson each set personal bests on a light day of competition for the Miners at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa) and Beach Invitational (Long Beach) on Friday afternoon.

Amai Newman clocked in a personal-best 54.74 in the women's 400-meter dash, placing 10th of 39 competitors.

Grace Culver set a PR in the women's long jump, leaping 5.50 meters (18-0.5).

Zacarias Velasquez leaped a season-best 7.23 meters (23-8.75) in the men's long jump.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Carmelo Corral turned in a personal-best time of 3:58.60 in the men's 1500.

Also in Azusa, Salma Licon posted a PR in the women's 1500, clocking 4:48.75.

Juan Leal clocked a season-best 3:48.56 in the men's 1500, with the potential to crack the top five in the CUSA with his new time.

"We wrapped up another successful weekend of competition with four more personal best performances and several season-best marks. It's great to see our athletes continuing to make progress and compete at a high level across all areas," first-year UTEP head coach Francesca Green said. "Overall, this weekend was another step forward for our program. We're seeing growth, we're seeing confidence, and we're seeing our athletes respond to the challenges we're putting in front of them.

"My message to our team is simple—we have to keep working. Day in and day out, it's about continuing to get better at the little things. That's where real progress happens, and that's what will separate us as we move closer to championship season. We'll stay focused, stay consistent, and keep building."
