EL PASO, Texas – UTEP softball dropped game two of its Conference USA series against Delaware, 6-4, Friday evening at Helen of Troy Field.
The Miners move to 11-22 overall and 3-11 in CUSA play, while the Blue Hens improve to 17-19 overall and 7-7 in league action.
Delaware struck early with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead. UTEP responded in the bottom half of the frame when Kenna Carranza launched a two-run shot to center field, scoring Iliana Munoz to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Miners evened things up in the third inning as Munoz delivered an RBI single to right center, bringing home Cece Marquez to make it 3-3.
Delaware regained control in the fourth, plating three runs to take a 6-3 advantage. UTEP threatened late, adding a run in the seventh after Marquez reached on an error that allowed Ari Leon to score, but the comeback fell short as Delaware secured the 6-4 victory.
UTEP was outhit 8-5 on the evening. Munoz paced the Miners offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Carranza led the team with two RBI on her first-inning home run.
Marissa Burchard and Cece Marquez each added a hit, while Halle Hogan drew a walk.
Defensively, Munoz recorded a team-high six putouts at first base, and Aaliyah Betancourt added four assists at third.
Ryann Presswood earned the start in the circle, tossing 2.0 innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout. Tatyana Vega provided 5.0 innings of relief, striking out two, but was charged with the loss to move to 8-8 on the season.

The series finale is scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. MDT at Helen of Troy Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, and a postgame Easter egg hunt for children ages 2-12 will follow.
