UTEP Student-Athletes Enjoy Watershed Year in the Classroom

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP student-athletes posted a cumulative 3.30 grade point average during the 2025-26 academic year, their best figure since the Miner Athlete Academic Center began tracking data in 2013.
 
The previous best cumulative student-athlete GPA was 3.24 during the 2019-20 campaign.
 
Overall, 13 of the 14 Miner sports programs fashioned GPA's of 3.0 or better. The top team GPA was posted by the women's golf program (3.77), followed by beach volleyball (3.73), soccer (3.53), indoor volleyball (3.53), men's golf (3.51) and rifle (3.50). 
 
Football (3.19 GPA), men's golf and women's golf all compiled their best GPA's since 2013. Soccer's GPA was its second-best since 2013.
 
"We had a tremendous year academically, and that's a testament to the hard work of our Miner Athlete Academic Center staff, our student-athletes and coaching staffs," UTEP Vice President and Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. "Our MAAC staff, in particular, works tirelessly to ensure that our student-athletes are on track with their degree plans and on pace to graduate, setting them up for future success."
 
"The academic staff understands the significant demands placed on student-athletes as they balance academic and athletic responsibilities," Director of the Miner Athlete Academic Center Denise Holguin said. "We are proud of the dedication and performance in the classroom and it reflects in the GPAs."
 
A total of 61 UTEP student-athletes earned their degrees during the 2025-26 academic year.
