EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (4-8) will hit the road to play a pair of matches this weekend, locking up at Texas State (4-5) at 12 p.m. MT Friday and competing at Conference USA foe UTSA (6-7) at 9 a.m. MT Sunday.
The Miners are coming off a split at home, having dispatched Montana State, 5-2, on Feb. 29, before falling, 6-1, to Wyoming on March 1. UTEP is 2-2 over the past two weekends of action, having made progress from earlier in the spring.
"After a couple of solid weekends of play we are excited to be on the road again," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We have two tough matches this weekend at Texas State and at UTSA. We know we are going to be pushed, but it will be a good test for our young team."
Kathleen Percegona enters the weekend on a two-match winning streak. She is now in a three-way tie alongside
Erandi Martinez and Lina Sáchica for the most victories during dual play in singles. Percegona showed tremendous grit in picking up two singles wins last weekend, notching a three-set triumph and also a victory with a super tiebreaker.
Eve Daniels and Sáchica and
Maria Aveiga and Percegona are tied for the team lead in doubles action with four triumphs total.
