DENTON, Texas – The UTEP tennis team saved it best for last by piling up seven combined wins in singles and doubles action on the final day of the Mean Green Invite Sunday. The Miners finished 7-3 on the day with a triumph in doubles and victories in singles by
Thassane Abrahim,
Eve Daniels,
Elena Dibattista,
Veronika Lebisova,
Kathleen Percegona and
Laura Schmitz.
"After two really difficult days we came out today with a lot focus and energy, winning seven out of 10 total matches we played today," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "The team really played well today. I hope they realize that they can play like today every day when they put their hearts and mind to it. I'm very proud of this group and how we finished our final day of fall competition. This was a great learning experience and this hopefully showed them that we can compete with anyone on any given day."
Lebisova knocked off Shivani Manjanna (VCU), while Dibattista took out Eloise Saraty (Liberty).
Kathleen Percegona emerged victorious vs. Elsa Kirch (Liberty), and Schmitz bested Bruna Sampaio (Liberty).
Abrahim derailed Nika Novikova (UTA), and Daniels took out Ioana Dumitrescu (UTA).
The Miners will now turn their attention to preparing for the dual-match portion of their season in the spring.
