Updated Draws After Day Two

SAN DIEGO, Calif.– Thassane Abrahim and Veronika Lebisova punched their ticket to the finals of doubles action with their second straight victory while Zuzanna Szczepanska and Abrahim notched wins in singles during the second day of play at the San Diego State Invitational Saturday.
 
The Miners won all three doubles matches contested, with Eve Daniels and Carlotta Mencaglia and Elena Dibattista and Szczepanska also securing triumphs on the day.
 
"We got off to a great start winning all three doubles matches this morning, including sending Tuca (Thassane Abrahim) and Veronika Lebisova to the finals tomorrow," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "I saw a lot of improvements today on a lot of courts, and I expect to see more of that tomorrow."
 
UTEP got off to a sizzling start in doubles action, emerging victorious in all three matches. Abrahim and Lebisova won for the second time in as many days to advance to the finals in the red draw after besting Long Beach State's Sheena Masuda and Rhona Cook, 7-6. Daniels and Mencaglia blasted LBSU's Hana Becirovic Novak and Doga Akyurek, 6-0. Dibattista and Szczepanska drilled Cal State Northridge's Jacqueline O'Neil and Vito Solis Urdiales, 6-2.
 
In singles play Szczepanska took down Doga Akyurek (LBSU), 6-2, 7-6 (7). Abrahim followed suit by besting O'Neil (Cal State Northridge), 6-3, 6-3.
 
Lebisova was upended by Diana Yanotoskaya (Cal State Fullerton), 7-5, 6-4, in a tight contest. Dibattista fell to Sasha Turchak (Cal State Northridge), 6-1, 6-0. Paloma Hennicaux was knocked off by Peppi Ramstedt (LBSU), 6-2, 6-2. Mencaglia's run in the main draw ended with a hard-fought setback to Becirovic Novak (LBSU), 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
 
The Orange and Blue will wrap up the SDSU Invite on Sunday where Abrahim and Lebisova will have the opportunity to claim the crown in the red draw. The last UTEP doubles duo to secure a fall crown came in 2016.
